At 7.00 pm on Saturday 8th May, 2010,
Upholdtheright.com closed down.
Pete, Woody, and the rest
of the Admin Team thank you for your patronage since
July 2001. We have grown over the years, and we've
had many battles on the way.
The forums used to be fun. To be honest they're not
anymore, and they haven't been for a while now.
Our enthusiasm for running
UHTR has been steadily eroding over the last 6
months or so. To be frank, we are sick of the
constant bickering and back-handed jibes between
users. Seriously, if people can't take
responsibility for their own failings, and accept
criticism when it is levelled at them, then we
question what value they are going to be as police
members.
We are also sick of the eternal fight to maintain
the standards of the posts. Not a day went by that
we didn't see people blatantly disregarding the
rules of the site. The standards were introduced for
a reason, and all users acknowledged they would
abide by those standards by registering with UHTR.
Yet time and again we saw people who are too f&^$g
lazy to even perform a simple spelling/grammar check
on their posts. These errors go beyond a simple
"typo".
Another thing that has really disappointed us over
the years has been the lack of support we have
received, both from within Victoria Police, and from
the UHTR membership.
Since 2001, we have been forwarded only 2 letters of
appreciation, via our Chain Of Command, from people
thanking us for the running of UHTR. We clearly
weren't doing this for any sort of recognition, but
some support from the forum membership would
have reinforced the value of the forums to Victoria
Police.
To put it simply, the continued running of UHTR has
simply become too hard. There is little to no
enjoyment for us here anymore.
We are proud of the people who we have been able to
develop friendships with, and who we have seen grow
from applicant, to Recruit, to Constable. We know
that we have offended some people, but we hope there
are others who have been able to learn something
from the site. We bear no grudges against anyone.
We are disappointed at the
demise of UHTR, but also quietly relieved.
Good luck to you all in your future endeavours.
We will continue to monitor
admin1@upholdtheright.com for a short time.
Goodbye, farewell and amen.
